In the begining of 2024 I left Christchurch and returned to my home city of Wellington, I was inbetween jobs and had an excess of free time so i decided to try my hand at fishing. I had always gone surfcasting off the beaches in the south island with my father but this time i really wanted to commit to learning all the different aspects of fishing, the different, knots, lures, reel specs, rod sensitivitys, ect. by the time i started fishing in Wellington, summer had passed and the only fish i could catch were Kahawai. i had great fun catching these fish but i couldnt wait for summer to roll aroud so i could try to catch even more species. Cut to now and summer is in full swing, i have been been fishing in the evenings after work around oriental parade where you can catch all kinds of diffrent fish. pictured below are a few good sized Trevally that my father and i caught.

Bait and rigs used
The Trevally we got were caught on slices of squid combined with an artificial bait called "fish bites" the squid is cut into strips that are sandwiched between 2 small pieces of fish bites, this stops the squid from being pulled off by the current and limits the chance of smaller fish pulling the squid off. We used 2 hook rigs with 2/0 sized hooks on 50lb fluorocarbon.
